Motorcycling Central America | Part 4 – Culture

Riding from country to country in
Central America and something occurred to me about foreign travel. While it’s always exciting to see a new
landscape or explore a different beach, I think it’s culture that leaves the
deepest impression. Experiencing traditions different than
your own are probably the key ingredient that makes certain travel, life-changing. Take Semana Santa for example: for 4
days and nights thousands of Catholics attend parades around the city for the
entire duration. Believers decorate the streets with beautiful artwork only to
be trampled by the passing processions. Once destroyed, the streets are cleared
and the cycle repeats. The dedication and pride on display is truly unforgettable. Or how about the Mayan markets where
tireless farmers and artisans sell their wares without the help of credit cards
or the Internet. Just when you feel like you’re a million
miles away, something familiar brings you right back
home. These are Collected Threads.
