I have been involved with the
Gallery for many, many years going back as [far as] the early ‘90s. I served on the Board of Directors then and have recently served on this Board as well. I also was a docent at the Gallery, so I’m quite familiar with the facility. It’s a place of learning.
It’s a place to be entertained. It’s a place to just be. It’s a very important facility
in our city and in the province. If you’ve ever gone to the Gallery,
you see school children and I know on Sunday, Sunday programs when I used to take my kids, my grandchildren, they loved it, and that was
their introduction to art and I think that if there was a facility
that could accommodate more, more often, it would be a plus to the province. We choose very carefully
where we put our philanthropy and this has been a choice that the
entire Foundation was 100% behind. We believe in giving back to
the people of British Columbia and the art community of our city needs
a place to show what they are doing. It is time now that Vancouver,
the Province, build a facility that mirrors a kind of art that we
would like to bring into the city and to show the people of British Columbia.
