An awkward introduction to the Academy for Popular Culture

At the Academy for Popular Culture we don’t have classes, but work in our own projects that you can create yourself. So whatever your ambition, at the A V P you can work on it. Can I sit on this wall? And… action. Ehm, I totally lost it. And… action. The big advantage of the Academy for Popular Culture is the presence of designers, musicians, organisers, videomakers, all in the same place. We are one school in our own building. Which means, there is a small communumumimiu I really like that I am already working on projects that are much like the projects I will be doing as a professional. &$#*$#@) Too many uhmmmms. “CUT!” Yes, did it suck?!? No more standardized tests. Ever. I have worked with Roger – our video teacher – at the “Bevrijdingsfestival”. So you can find yourself working in a professional environment alongside your teacher. The teachers at our school are artists as well. You might get a lesson from a DJ and “SLB” from a rapper. What is SLB?
Nobody knows what SLB is… Yes. Everybody knows what SLB is. If you’re lucky you will have “guest lectures” when they occur, they are really cool. By teachers, ehm, people that play the biggest festivals that write for the biggest artists. Et cetera. Am I being too cynical? Kraantje Pappie went to our school. You can graduate on the weirdest @#$% There were people who made ehm… little… snacks… We are one group of students in one school building which creates a small learning community We learn from eachother and with eachother. And they are all… no… mostly nice people.
